Here is a new piece I completed just before Spring Daze...I used these cool Chinese cards that my friend Korinne gave me. They really made the strawberry look cool. So with my sisters new baby and wedding planning I have realized how much I LOVE making invitations and custom announcements. So on that thought I have began my journey into the custom invitation business. I have started a blog called inspiration turn design : http://inspirationturndesign.blogspot.com/

I have also started making cards and playing around with digital design from my sketches. Below is a sketch I did of a cocktail. Scanned directly from my sketch book.

This Sunday I traveled to Kings Mountain NC for the opening reception of "I am Woman" a juried Art exhibit. I was pretty excited because my piece was excepted. I did not win but the cool part is that there were 65 entries and only 22 were selected....and I was one of the 22!

This is a piece I completed last night. I used scrap paper and paint. The paper is actually print outs from one of my undergraduate classes...some type of English class. It is kind of cool that you can see some writing on the paper from my vigorous note taking. It is nice to find uses for all that paper from undergrad and now grad school.

This piece incorporates my photography...I took this picture in Chicago. Actually in the bathroom of our hotel room. We stayed in the nicest hotel The Palmer Hilton. The room was designed so uniquely and the wall paper in the bathroom was so cool. You never know where you will get your inspiration.

This piece is 4x4 and created on a piece of recycled wood. The piece may look familiar...I had a mess up with my printer while trying to print my work to make key chains and I just could not waste the print out so I made it into a new piece.

I have not been slacking...but I have been so busy lately and have not had a chance to take a picture of my new art creations. Hopefully by this weekend I will have everything posted. Only 31 days until my craft show!!! Not to mention I am entering two pieces into a show in Kings Mountain, NC. The show is called "I am Woman" and I figured my work would fit nicely.

I AM ENGAGED!!! Easter Sunday morning at 6am (I might add) Brad proposed to ME!!! The date is set and only 6 months to plan. Can't wait!

Collage cards! I finally got my thought process together on a few ideas of cards for my craft show coming up. They are pretty simple but I think that makes them pretty awesome. Even with all the excitement of the weekend I have not quite slacked of yet...but now there is a lot of crafty planning to do!!!!

I have been out of town and pretty busy so here is the update...

Now that I am back into town it is back to work with collage! I have been offered an opportunity to place some art work in the United Arts Council of Greensboro's board room. So as soon as I got home it was time to make sure all the pieces were ready to go tomorrow. Thanks Brad for helping me out.

Sunday I left for Chicago for a business trip. Very cool city! in more than one way. It was pretty cold but other than that it was really fun. We were lucky to have a hotel room across from the Art Institute and it was so cool to see all the fashion design students working hard.

Friday March 7th was the opening reception of CVA's Artist 200 gallery. I contributed the piece above. Check it out at the Center for Visual Artist gallery in the Cultural Arts Center Greensboro, NC 200 N. Davie St.

Still Stenciling

Well I saw this great tutorial about making journals out of recycled paper so I had to try it. I was in the process of cutting up paper for scraps at work (I use way too many post-its) and it hit me I should try the journal with some of this paper...so I did. Then I was like well since I have just made this "Stiletto Fabulous" stencil (which I can't wait to do myself a t-shirt) so I tried it out on the journal.

So I have been working on my stenciling techniques. My ideas behind them came from my sketch book. Sometimes I create some pretty cool sketches and just don't want to waste them so I decided I should make stencils. Then I can use my sketches over and over. Here I have done two onsies for my niece. The bodice one (hopefully Casey will let her wear it) haha is one that I want her to wear at my craft show in May! Support Artistic Flavor and her AUNT PAM!

This collage is 6x6 and was created on a solid piece of scrap wood. (thanks dad) I used a combination of paper and paint to make the boots and dress. It is a little wacky but the colors make it pop!

Well I have class tonight thank goodness Thursday night classes are over. Two nights a week staying on campus until 9ish was getting exhausting. For this "lunch/dinner work"collage I used paper on my desk and an old calendar I kept because I liked the colors...even though they are pastels.

This bracelet is one of my favorite! I have been experimenting with photography and took a picture while on a trip with my mom and sister of the unique bed post in our room. I digitally tweaked the picture and then printed and created a pattern with the cut photo.

My sister is about to have a baby girl in less than a week! I AM GOING TO BE AN AUNT! I did my collage today from work using pink paper and covered it with pink reinforcements then cut out a silhouette of a pregnant woman. I used my sister’s pregnancy. pics to create the image. Hope you didn't mind Casey.

This is my 2nd day of collage everyday. For those of you who do not know me I work 40 hrs a week and take graduate classes so Wednesday and Thursdays I am at the University until 9:00! So on those days my collage is going to be done during my lunch break. It is kind of cool because I have to be really creative. This collage I used hot pink card stock and a tide pen. The tide pen gave it a faded look. Then I just used markers. I used words that are powering especially since I am trying to make my passion my future which can be frustrating at times.

I read a great article today from a flickr buddy Keri Smith. It is titled "How to make a Living doing what you love" . I love finding things like this that keep me going!

A New Piece

Well I have been playing around with photography and incorporating it into my collages. Here is the newest piece. If some you know me you will understand my love for high heels and stilettos. These are my favorite boots and actually my favorite dress. While snapping pictures of my bracelets I got a few extra shots for my art pieces. This piece screams ME!

Creative Everyday

So here is my first piece of Creative Art every day. I have joined a few flicker groups where the goal is to post an art piece, in my case a collage every day. I am starting with a piece of paper 3 ½ inches x 6 ½ inches. I am a little rusty on my first try…I tend to make a collages and then come back the next day and add until I feel like it is complete. With this project I am just going for it and not reworking anything. Let me know what you think.

Works in Progress

These are 2 works that most likely be shown and maybe even auctioned at the Vagina Monologues in honor of the 10th anniversary of VDAY ( http://www.vday.org/). The monologues will be held at UNCG's Elliott Center February 2/14-2/16. I am sure there will be more added to each piece before the final product but this is just a sneak peek.

This piece is titled "Roses For Home" I used a combination of photography and collage within this piece. The piece represents the confinement of abused women in their own home. Many women are in situations that are abusive either physical or mental and at time both. Within this piece a woman who sees the beauty of the out side world signified by the rose but she is unable to grab that beauty because she is stuck behind a window. The words written on the paper held by the hand reads "oh what beauty outside these walls, oh what beauty."

This piece was made using dress patterns and the back of the pattern which lists sizes. I used a shapely woman to express how loving your body should be natural and size is only a number that represents clothes ONLY not who we are as powerful women!

I have finally had a chance to post a new piece. This piece incorporates a photo and paint. I have to admit I did not take the picture...my boyfriend Brad did. I have to say it was a good picture. I took the picture and worked some photoshop magic on it and then cut it into pieces for this collage.

Oh well I didn't win the wine label contest...but now I can show you the final piece. It was my interpretation of the Carolina coast. I am currently working on a new piece to enter into a wine art contest which is due in March. Wish me luck!

THE BABY SHOWER

The baby shower is officially over and was a huge success. Most of the decorations were hand made and I even did some belly shots of my sister and used them as decorations! It was very modern and I think everyone was surprised...it was not your normal baby shower!

Above is a picture of mom to be Casey my sister, my mom and myself. Can you tell I look a little tired after getting everything together! Special thanks to KIM! and Casey!

I turned my TV mantel into a cute display for belly shots of my sister and Carlee in my sister's belly. I used what I had to save money so my wine glasses served as candle holders for tea lights. The colored pom poms were made of wire and tissue to add color to the mantle
These are the party favors filled with starburst that matched the decor and kisses. Each were tied with a ribbon and I attached a picture of Carlee's ultrasound. The flamingo was made of wire and collaged to turn it pink. It took maybe 5 minutes to make this...great idea to save money! I was planning to buy a flamingo but with a price tag of $25 if decided I could make one for pennies!
Here is the complete set up with food on display. I had bruchetta and pesto along with a variety of cheeses, spinach artichoke dip and frozen fruit. I did not serve cake since my sister is allergic to wheat so I made individual cheesecake inside plastic wine glasses.
I used an old washtub...borrowed from my grandmother to hold the drinks...and I said no to punch at this party. I picked up a variety of sparkling lemonades, pomegranate and grapefruit juices. Everyone loved them. It was like a cocktail party without the booze! And of course we had coffee...my mom and myself can not live with out it!

The letters to spell out my niece to be Carlee and made a very funky onesie with angel wings. These letters will be displayed above Carlees crib.

After Crafting for the Holidays I am now trying to put together a baby shower for my sister. I have been experimenting with graphic design and came up with this invitations that dictates what her nursery will be decorated like. I am starting to really like playing around on the computer incorporating both digital and collage. I am sure there will be more digital designs to come. I may start selling some of my designs soon but in the mean time if you are looking for an awesome design for an invitation, card, or anything your mind can dream up please e-mail me and I will see what I can pull together.

It has been a while since my last post. I have been working on orders of custom bracelets and Christmas presents for my friends and Family. I will have a new collection of collage bracelets soon. The new pieces I have been working on might end up as presents so I have not put them online yet.

If you want a unique gift for friends or family order a custom bracelet or collage. If you would like your collage piece by Christmas, get your order in quickly, they may take at least 2 weeks to complete. Collage bracelet orders can be complete withing 3 days.

This collage was inspired by GUITAR HERO!!! It is crazy that a ps2 game can be so addicting. My boyfriend and I play it all the time. We are actually getting pretty good. This collage is has layers. Layer 1: pictures of stained glass windows. I took this picture at my church right before sunset and there was a great glow coming through the window. Layer 2: Stencil-I made a stencil on photoshop of a guitar on a transparency. Layer 3: Pencil and paint Layer 4: transparency died with blue and black ink and cut out in the shape of wings. This image is one I took with my camera. I can't wait to get a new camera for Christmas. Hopefully I will be able to take professional pictures of my work...and images I use in the work.

This is a piece I just completed...I think?!? using hand made papers & paint. I have found that some papers are just not the best for gluing. The paper would not lay as flat as I wanted it to. I hate pucked paper when it is not the feeling I am going for. Over all it turned out pretty cool but may need more work...sometimes I create something then have to look at it for a few days before I decide it is complete. FYI the original piece is a little larger. The Scanner cut it off.

Lovely Chandelier

I have been so inspired by wallpaper patterns. There are so many unique kinds of patterns that catch my eye. I have been looking at sites like Hidden ARt which show a chandelier wallpaper pattern. I just love it so I had to try it out myself. Of course I had to add my collage techniques. This chandelier was hand sketched onto (oh course) a dress pattern. I just can't get enough of dress patterns as well. I went over the sketch with white paint.

This is the first silhouette I did. I really like the the idea of black silhouettes and intense color backgrounds. The background is a tissue collage and the trees were drawn and colored with a black marker, cut out, and placed on the background.

This picture was made for a friend who is moving. I took a picture of an actual wine bottle and designed the collage wine bottle from the pictures.

Dancing.....Me and sister were "breaking it down" ha ha or at least trying at a party for my mom last year. The background is sheet music and the design was inspired by my endless search for patterns and color combinations.

This is a collage I did of my boyfriend and I. Once again I am dancing...you may think I am good at dancing but NOT really... people snap pictures of me in the process of dancing whenever the occasion arises...maybe because of my lack of dancing skills!?!?

My whole life I have loved art. My walls, floor, and furniture back in my hometown are covered with reminders of my artistic exploration. I even painted my TV in high school. Nothing looked good without a splash of paint..well I thought! Finally now I am 24 years old and I have found my niche in the artistic world. I found myself not able to use just paint, or paper, or just one form of medium and creating art that was more abstract than real seemed to fit me best and through my research I found Mixed Media Collage and fell in love with it. I explored this area with papers, photos, and paints. I experimented with pictures I had of my family and friends and really enjoyed creating an abstractness within a photo. After making a few collages people started responding to them and actually wanted one of themselves or family and that is how Pam's Collages began. It is in the beginnings stages but it is a hobby I know I will enjoy for a long time.

This collage is one I made for my business Card. I used pages from old books, paint, and a photo of myself in Savannah GA.
